Who was the lead director of Pixar's Cars?
Answer
John Lasseter
Answer
John Lasseter
John Lasseter was the lead director of Pixar's Cars.
Lasseter co-founded Pixar and had already directed Toy Story, A Bug's Life, and Toy Story 2 before making Cars. His interest in road trips and American car culture helped shape the film's setting, characters, and themes. The movie combines a sports story with a journey through a changing American landscape.
Cars is also credited to Joe Ranft and Jorgen Klubien as co-directors. Ranft was a major Pixar writer, story artist, and creative leader who worked on many of the studio's early films. Lasseter nevertheless served as the principal director and was the main public creative figure associated with the production.
The film marked a notable change from Pixar's earlier stories because its entire cast is made up of vehicles. Lasseter and the production team researched automobiles, racing, road design, and Route 66 communities to make Radiator Springs feel connected to real American history while remaining a fictional setting.
