Who was the first rider to lap the Isle of Man TT course at over 130 mph?

The story behind the answer

John McGuinness was the first rider to lap the Isle of Man TT course at more than 130 mph.

He achieved the landmark during the 2007 Senior TT. McGuinness completed his second lap in 17 minutes 21.99 seconds, an average of 130.354 mph, breaking the 130-mph barrier and setting a new outright lap record for the TT Course at the time.

The achievement was especially notable because his opening lap had averaged 129.883 mph—just below the threshold. The Mountain Course is approximately 37.73 miles long and combines public-road sections, villages, fast bends, and the exposed Snaefell Mountain section, so maintaining an average above 130 mph requires extraordinary speed and consistency.

Peter Hickman later became associated with even faster outright TT lap records, while Michael Dunlop became the event’s dominant modern winner. Those later achievements can cause confusion, but they do not change the historical distinction asked here: McGuinness was the first rider to cross the 130-mph average-lap barrier.
