Who was the first Pokémon named in the National Pokédex?

The story behind the answer

Bulbasaur is the first Pokémon listed in the National Pokédex, where it has number 001. It is one of the three selectable partner Pokémon offered at the beginning of Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, and their related versions.

Bulbasaur is a dual Grass- and Poison-type Pokémon. Its Pokédex entries describe a seed planted on its back at birth, which grows as the Pokémon develops. At level 16, Bulbasaur evolves into Ivysaur, and Ivysaur later evolves into Venusaur.

The other original starter Pokémon are Charmander and Squirtle. Their Pokédex numbers are 004 and 007, respectively, because the first generation’s entries also include other species between them.

Pikachu is strongly associated with Pokémon’s global identity, but it is number 025 rather than number 001. Mew is number 151, the final entry in the original Kanto Pokédex.
