Who was the first fighter to hold two UFC titles simultaneously?

The story behind the answer

Conor McGregor was the first fighter to hold two UFC titles simultaneously.

McGregor made history at UFC 205 in New York on November 12, 2016, when he stopped Eddie Alvarez by second-round technical knockout. The victory gave McGregor the lightweight championship while he still held the featherweight title he had won from José Aldo the previous year.

That achievement made him the UFC’s first simultaneous two-division champion. McGregor had already become the first fighter to win UFC championships in two weight classes, but the key distinction is that he possessed both belts at the same time. He later vacated the featherweight title, so his reign as simultaneous champion was brief.

The accomplishment is often confused with being a two-division champion at any point in a career. Randy Couture, B.J. Penn and others had won UFC titles in multiple divisions, but McGregor was the first to hold two UFC championship belts concurrently.

Daniel Cormier later became the second simultaneous two-division champion, followed by Henry Cejudo and Amanda Nunes. Nunes also became the first woman to accomplish the feat.
