Who was the first female driver to score a World Championship point?

Lella Lombardi was the first female driver to score a World Championship point. She earned half a point by finishing sixth in the 1975 Spanish Grand Prix at Barcelona’s dangerous Montjuïc circuit.

The race was stopped after 29 of its scheduled 75 laps following a fatal accident involving Rolf Stommelen’s car. Because less than three-fifths of the planned distance had been completed, the regulations awarded half points. Lombardi’s sixth place therefore became 0.5 championship points.

Lombardi had already made history as only the second woman to qualify for a Formula One Grand Prix, following Maria Teresa de Filippis in 1958. A common mix-up is to credit de Filippis for the points record simply because she was the first woman to start a World Championship race. Lombardi remains the only woman to score in an F1 World Championship race.
