Who was the famous Polish female scientist who won a Nobel Prize?

The story behind the answer

The famous Polish female scientist who won a Nobel Prize was Marie Curie.

Born Maria Skłodowska in Warsaw in 1867, Curie moved to Paris to study science and became a pioneer in the study of radioactivity. Working with her husband, Pierre Curie, and physicist Henri Becquerel, she helped establish radioactivity as a major field of scientific research. The Curies discovered the elements polonium, named after Poland, and radium.

Curie won the 1903 Nobel Prize in Physics with Pierre Curie and Becquerel for their work on radiation. In 1911, she won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for discovering polonium and radium and isolating radium. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and remains the only person to receive Nobel Prizes in two different scientific fields.

A common mix-up is assuming she won only once or that she was exclusively French. She became a French scientist, but her Polish origin remained central to her identity; her original surname was Skłodowska.
