Who was the creative director of Givenchy from 1996 to 2001?

Alexander McQueen was Givenchy’s creative director from 1996 to 2001. The British designer, whose full name was Lee Alexander McQueen, succeeded John Galliano at the Paris fashion house after Galliano moved to Dior.

McQueen’s appointment connected London’s famously rebellious design scene with one of France’s historic couture brands. At Givenchy, he worked across womenswear haute couture and ready-to-wear, bringing dramatic tailoring, provocative themes and a darker theatrical sensibility to the house.
