Who was Simba's father in "The Lion King"?

The story behind the answer

Who was Simba's father in "The Lion King"? Mufasa was Simba's father.

Mufasa is the benevolent king of the Pride Lands and the father of Simba in Disney's The Lion King. He raises Simba to understand the responsibilities of leadership, teaching him about the Circle of Life and the balance connecting every creature in the kingdom.

In the 1994 animated film, Mufasa's younger brother Scar covets the throne. Scar engineers a wildebeest stampede that puts Simba in danger and causes Mufasa's death, then manipulates Simba into believing that he was responsible. Simba flees into exile but eventually returns to challenge Scar and reclaim his family's kingdom.

James Earl Jones provided Mufasa's voice in the original film and returned for several related productions, including the 2019 computer-animated remake. A common mix-up is calling Scar Simba's father because Scar becomes king after Mufasa dies; Scar is actually Simba's uncle and rival.
