Who was Reddit's first female CEO?

The story behind the answer

Reddit’s first female CEO was Ellen Pao. She became the company’s interim chief executive in November 2014 after Yishan Wong resigned, making her the first woman to lead Reddit.

Pao had joined Reddit in 2013 as head of business development and strategic partnerships. During her tenure, Reddit introduced major policy changes, including a ban on revenge porn and restrictions on communities that encouraged harassment. She also changed the company’s hiring practices to reduce gender-based differences in salary negotiation.

Pao left Reddit in July 2015 after a turbulent period marked by user protests, criticism over communication, and controversy surrounding the banning of several subreddits. Reddit co-founder Steve Huffman then returned as CEO. A common mix-up is confusing Pao with Alexis Ohanian, Reddit’s co-founder and executive chairman, or with Yishan Wong, who preceded her as CEO.
