Who was Queen Victoria's last prime minister?

Lord Salisbury was Queen Victoria's last prime minister. His full name was Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 3rd Marquess of Salisbury, and he remained in office from 25 June 1895 until Victoria's death on 22 January 1901.

Salisbury served as prime minister three times. His final ministry began after the Liberal government of the Earl of Rosebery resigned in 1895. The Conservative and Liberal Unionist alliance then won a large majority, allowing Salisbury to lead the government through the final years of Victoria's reign.

His last premiership was dominated by imperial and foreign-policy questions, including the Second Boer War in South Africa. Salisbury also served as foreign secretary for much of this period, an unusual concentration of authority that reflected his expertise in international affairs.

The main source of confusion is the sequence of late-Victorian prime ministers. Rosebery immediately preceded Salisbury's final term, while Benjamin Disraeli and William Gladstone were earlier premiers. Salisbury resigned in 1902, after Victoria had died and Edward VII was king, and was succeeded by his nephew Arthur Balfour.
