Who was Georgia O'Keeffe's husband and the photographer who promoted her work?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe's husband and leading photographic promoter was Alfred Stieglitz.

Stieglitz was an influential American photographer, modern-art advocate, and gallery owner. He first encountered O'Keeffe's charcoal drawings through the photographer and art educator Anita Pollitzer, then exhibited them at his New York gallery in 1916. That early exhibition helped bring O'Keeffe to the attention of the American art world.

Stieglitz and O'Keeffe married in 1924, although their relationship was complicated and both maintained important artistic lives. He photographed her extensively, producing hundreds of portraits over several decades. Their partnership connected O'Keeffe's work with the modernist circles Stieglitz supported.

Paul Strand and Edward Steichen were also important figures in American photography, but neither was O'Keeffe's husband.
