In which New Mexico town did Georgia O'Keeffe live and work near the end of her life?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe lived and worked in Abiquiú, New Mexico, near the end of her life.

O'Keeffe first visited New Mexico in 1929 and returned regularly for many years. The state’s deserts, cliffs, bones, flowers, and architectural forms became recurring subjects in her paintings.

In 1945, she purchased a neglected adobe house at Ghost Ranch, near Abiquiú. She later restored a second property in the village of Abiquiú, moving there permanently in 1949 after Alfred Stieglitz's death. The Abiquiú house became one of her principal homes and studios.

Taos and Santa Fe are also closely associated with O'Keeffe because she traveled throughout northern New Mexico and exhibited there. However, Abiquiú is the specific town linked to her later residence and the famous adobe compound now preserved as a historic site.
