Who was Georgia O'Keeffe's husband and the photographer who first exhibited her work?

The story behind the answer

Alfred Stieglitz was Georgia O'Keeffe's husband and the photographer who first exhibited her work.

Stieglitz, a major American photographer and gallery owner, first showed O'Keeffe's abstract drawings at his New York gallery in 1916. The gallery was known as 291, after its address at 291 Fifth Avenue. Their professional relationship developed into a personal one, and they married in 1924.

Stieglitz played a major role in introducing O'Keeffe to the New York art world, but her artistic reputation was not simply a product of his support. She continued to develop her own subjects and visual language, including flowers, skyscrapers, landscapes, and bones. Stieglitz also made hundreds of photographs of O'Keeffe, while she later became increasingly independent of his gallery and artistic circle. Their marriage lasted until his death in 1946.
