What mountain did Georgia O'Keeffe repeatedly paint near Abiquiú?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe repeatedly painted Cerro Pedernal, a flat-topped mountain near Abiquiú, New Mexico.

The distinctive mesa became one of her recurring landscape subjects. Its isolated profile and broad top made it visually recognizable, and O'Keeffe represented it in paintings from different viewpoints and under varied conditions.

O'Keeffe once described Cerro Pedernal as her private mountain and said it was her favorite subject. The mountain is part of the volcanic landscape of northern New Mexico and rises prominently above the surrounding terrain.

Cerro Pedernal is not the same place as Ghost Ranch, although both are closely associated with O'Keeffe's New Mexico work. The mountain's silhouette is also separate from the red cliffs and walls that appear in many of her Ghost Ranch paintings.
