Who was Georgia O'Keeffe's husband and longtime photographic portraitist?
Answer
Alfred Stieglitz
Answer
Alfred Stieglitz
Georgia O'Keeffe's husband and longtime photographic portraitist was Alfred Stieglitz.
Stieglitz was an influential American photographer, modern-art promoter, and gallery owner. He first exhibited O'Keeffe's work in 1916 at his New York gallery, 291, after receiving drawings from their mutual connection Anita Pollitzer.
The couple married in 1924 and remained together until Stieglitz died in 1946. Stieglitz photographed O'Keeffe hundreds of times, creating an extensive visual record of her life and career.
Their relationship is often discussed alongside their professional collaboration, but O'Keeffe was not simply Stieglitz's subject. She developed an independent artistic reputation, later spending much of her time in New Mexico and becoming a major figure in American modernism.
