Answer
Alfred Stieglitz
Answer
Alfred Stieglitz
Georgia O'Keeffe's husband and longtime art dealer was Alfred Stieglitz.
Stieglitz was an influential American photographer, gallery owner, and promoter of modern art. He first encountered O'Keeffe's work through her charcoal abstractions and presented her first solo exhibition at his New York gallery, 291, in 1917.
They married in 1924 and remained together until Stieglitz died in 1946. He photographed O'Keeffe extensively, producing hundreds of portraits and nudes that became an important part of both artists' public histories.
Stieglitz's advocacy helped bring O'Keeffe to wider attention, but her career was not limited to his patronage. She developed an independent body of work involving flowers, city architecture, animal bones, and landscapes, and she continued making art long after his death.
