Who was Georgia O'Keeffe's husband and a major photographer?
Answer
Alfred Stieglitz
Answer
Alfred Stieglitz
Georgia O'Keeffe's husband and major photographer was Alfred Stieglitz.
Stieglitz was an influential American photographer, gallery owner, and promoter of modern art. He exhibited O'Keeffe's work at his New York galleries beginning in 1916, before they met in person.
They married in 1924. Stieglitz photographed O'Keeffe extensively, producing hundreds of portraits and nudes over several decades. Their relationship was both personal and professionally important, although O'Keeffe increasingly insisted on an artistic identity independent of his influence.
Stieglitz introduced many Americans to European modernism through galleries including 291 and An American Place. He died in 1946. O'Keeffe later moved permanently to New Mexico, while Stieglitz remained associated with New York and Lake George.
