Who was George Lucas's first wife?
Answer
Marcia Lucas
Answer
Marcia Lucas
George Lucas’s first wife was film editor Marcia Lucas, born Marcia Lou Griffin. The couple met in 1967 while working as apprentice editors on a documentary project connected with USC and married on February 22, 1969. They later divorced in 1983 after more than a decade of marriage.
Marcia was an important creative figure in her own right, not simply a filmmaker’s spouse. She edited or helped edit several major films, including George Lucas’s THX 1138 and American Graffiti, Martin Scorsese’s Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore and Taxi Driver, and the original Star Wars. She won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Star Wars in 1978, sharing the honor with Paul Hirsch and Richard Chew.
Her role is often overlooked because George Lucas is more closely associated with the franchise’s writing, directing, and world-building. During post-production on Star Wars, Marcia worked on crucial sequences, including the climactic battle. The other names in the choices are not correct: Carrie Fisher was an actor, Kathleen Kennedy became a major producer, and Mellody Hobson became Lucas’s second wife in 2013.
