Rosie Rios was designated chair of the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission in 2022.
Rios is an American public official and business leader who served as the 43rd treasurer of the United States from 2009 to 2016. As treasurer, she was associated with the signature of the treasurer on U.S. currency and with efforts to broaden awareness of women’s contributions to American history.
President Joe Biden designated Rios as commission chair in July 2022. She had first joined the commission in January 2018, so her chairmanship followed several years of involvement in planning the 250th anniversary.
The chair role is separate from the day-to-day executive leadership of America250. The commission is a federal planning body, while the broader anniversary effort includes partner organizations, museums, schools, states, local governments and civic groups.
