Who voices the character Towelie in South Park?

The story behind the answer

Vernon Chatman voices the South Park character Towelie.

Chatman is a writer, producer, comedian, and voice actor who became part of South Park’s production staff. He supplies Towelie’s deliberately flat, distracted delivery, including the character’s famous reminders to bring a towel and his repeated interest in getting high.

Towelie first appeared in the Season 5 episode “Towelie,” which aired on August 8, 2001. The character was created as a joke about the growing commercialization and merchandising of South Park: he is intentionally simple, catchphrase-driven, and easy to turn into a product.

A frequent mix-up is assuming that Trey Parker or Matt Stone voices every prominent male character on the show. They do voice many of South Park’s central characters, but Towelie is associated with Chatman. Chatman has also voiced other South Park characters and worked as a writer and producer on the series.
