Chris Cooper voices Smokey in Pixar’s Cars 3.

Smokey is Doc Hudson’s former crew chief and mechanic, living in Thomasville, Georgia. Lightning McQueen meets him while investigating Doc’s past and learning how the Hudson Hornet adapted after his racing career changed.

Smokey helps Lightning understand that Doc’s greatest achievements were not limited to winning races. His advice becomes part of Lightning’s emotional and technical growth as he prepares for competition against a younger generation.

Chris Cooper is an American actor known for film roles including American Beauty, Adaptation, and Seabiscuit. In Cars 3, his calm performance gives Smokey the quality of an experienced mentor rather than a conventional rival.
