Who voices Mr. Perkins in Despicable Me?

The story behind the answer

Will Arnett voices Mr. Perkins in Despicable Me.

Mr. Perkins is the president of the Bank of Evil, the institution that finances supervillains’ schemes. Gru approaches him for a loan to support the Moon heist, but Perkins rejects Gru after deciding that the aging villain is no longer a prime competitor. That refusal pushes Gru and the Minions to find another way to fund their plan.

The character is also Vector’s father. Perkins tells Vector about Gru’s possession of the shrink ray, helping trigger the rivalry that drives the film’s second half. His role is small but important because he connects the financial side of villainy with the personal conflict between Gru and Vector.

Arnett’s voice castmates include Steve Carell as Gru, Jason Segel as Vector, Russell Brand as Dr. Nefario, and Kristen Wiig as Miss Hattie. Mr. Perkins should not be confused with Fred McDade, another minor character voiced by Danny McBride.
