What superhero initiative do five Minions join in Despicable Me 4?

In Despicable Me 4, five Minions join the Anti-Villain League’s superhero initiative called the Mega Minions.

After Gru’s family is relocated for protection from Maxime Le Mal, most of the Minions are taken in by the AVL. Silas Ramsbottom selects five of them for augmentation with superpowers, creating the Mega Minions as a new response to the threat.

The initiative gives the Minions powers that parody familiar superhero abilities, including super strength, flight, elasticity, and an energy weapon. Their lack of discipline and poor control quickly turns the experiment into a source of comic destruction rather than a reliable crime-fighting unit.

The name is easy to confuse with a general description such as “Super Minions,” but Mega Minions is the film’s official term for this specific AVL project. The team is a major new element in the fourth main Despicable Me film, released in 2024.
