Eduardo appears to be the cheerful owner of the Salsa & Salsa restaurant at Paradise Mall, but he is secretly the notorious supervillain El Macho. He faked his death years earlier by supposedly riding a shark into an active volcano with 250 pounds of dynamite strapped to his chest.

As El Macho, Eduardo steals the PX-41 mutagen and plans to transform Gru’s Minions into powerful, violent creatures. He intends to use them to conquer major cities. Gru becomes suspicious of Eduardo early in the investigation, although the villain hides his identity behind a friendly restaurant-owner persona.

A notable production detail explains why viewers may associate another actor with the role. Al Pacino originally recorded all of El Macho’s dialogue but left the project over creative differences. Bratt replaced him late in production and had to match the existing animation’s timing.
