Who voiced the teapot character Mrs. Potts?

Angela Lansbury voiced Mrs. Potts, the enchanted teapot in Beauty and the Beast.

Mrs. Potts is the castle’s housekeeper, transformed into a teapot by the enchantress’s curse. She adopts a warm, motherly attitude toward Belle and becomes one of the first servants to treat her kindly. Her son Chip has been transformed into a teacup, making the pair part of the castle’s household-object family.

Lansbury also sings “Beauty and the Beast,” the film’s central ballad. The filmmakers reportedly considered several possible names for the character, including “Mrs. Chamomile,” before settling on the simpler name suggested by lyricist Howard Ashman. Lansbury’s performance gives the character both domestic warmth and emotional authority.

Mrs. Potts is often confused with other well-known members of the enchanted household. Paige O’Hara voiced Belle, Maggie Smith was not Mrs. Potts in the 1991 animated film, and Chip is the teacup rather than the teapot. In the later 2017 live-action remake, Emma Thompson took over the role, but Lansbury remains the voice of the original animated character.
