Who voiced Elmer Fudd in the classic Looney Tunes shorts?

Arthur Q. Bryan voiced Elmer Fudd in the classic Looney Tunes shorts. Bryan supplied Fudd’s characteristic hesitant, “wabbit”-style voice for most of the character’s best-known Golden Age appearances.

Bryan was a radio actor known for programs including Fibber McGee and Molly. He began voicing Fudd around 1939–1940, helping define the hunter’s personality as a blustering but often outmatched foil for Bugs Bunny. His performance became the definitive version of the character.

Mel Blanc is a common mix-up because he voiced many major Looney Tunes characters, including Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig and Daffy Duck. Blanc did perform some Fudd lines and later voiced the character more regularly, but Bryan was the principal classic-era voice. After Bryan’s death in 1959, other actors—including Hal Smith and Blanc—took over in later productions.
