Who took over leading Tumblr after David Karp announced his departure in 2017?
Answer
Jeff D'Onofrio
Answer
Jeff D'Onofrio
Jeff D’Onofrio took over leading Tumblr after founder and CEO David Karp announced his departure in 2017.
D’Onofrio was already a senior Tumblr executive when Karp stepped down. He had joined the company as chief financial officer in December 2013 and became president and chief operating officer in October 2014. That experience made him the established internal leader to assume responsibility for the service.
Karp announced in November 2017 that he would leave Tumblr at the end of the year, after nearly 11 years at the helm. D’Onofrio subsequently became Tumblr’s chief executive, guiding the platform during its period under Verizon’s Oath and later Verizon Media organizations.
The other options refer to people associated with Tumblr’s broader history but do not fit this succession. Marissa Mayer led Yahoo, not Tumblr; Marco Arment helped create Tumblr but had left years earlier; and Matt Mullenweg became relevant later, when Automattic acquired Tumblr in 2019. D’Onofrio remained associated with Tumblr until 2022.
