Who teaches Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone?

Quirinus Quirrell teaches Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Quirrell appears to be a nervous and inexperienced professor during Harry’s first year. The book later reveals that he encountered Lord Voldemort while travelling and became the host of Voldemort’s weakened spirit.

Voldemort uses Quirrell to pursue the Philosopher’s Stone, which is hidden at Hogwarts. Quirrell’s turban conceals Voldemort, creating one of the first major mysteries in the series.

Quirrell is sometimes confused with later Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers, especially Gilderoy Lockhart and Remus Lupin. The position changes teachers repeatedly because of the curse associated with the job.
