Who served as Starbucks CEO from 2005 to 2008?
Answer
Jim Donald
Answer
Jim Donald
Jim Donald served as Starbucks’ CEO from 2005 to 2008.
Donald became president and chief executive officer in April 2005, succeeding Orin Smith. Before taking the top job, he had led Starbucks’ North American business and brought extensive supermarket-industry experience from Albertsons.
His tenure coincided with a period of rapid international expansion and growing competitive pressure in the U.S. coffee market. Starbucks continued adding stores, but slowing customer traffic and concerns about overexpansion increasingly challenged the company’s growth model.
In January 2008, Starbucks replaced Donald with Howard Schultz, the company’s chairman and former CEO. Because the transition occurred early in 2008, references commonly summarize Donald’s tenure as running from 2005 to 2008. Kevin Johnson and Laxman Narasimhan were much later CEOs, while Orin Smith preceded Donald.
