Who scored the winning goal in the 1999 UEFA Champions League final?
Answer
Ole Gunnar Solskjær
Answer
Ole Gunnar Solskjær
Ole Gunnar Solskjær scored the winning goal in the 1999 UEFA Champions League final. His last-gasp strike gave Manchester United a 2–1 victory over Bayern Munich at Camp Nou in Barcelona on 26 May 1999.
Bayern led from the sixth minute, when Mario Basler’s free kick beat Peter Schmeichel. Manchester United struggled to create clear chances, but manager Alex Ferguson introduced Teddy Sheringham and Solskjær as substitutes. Sheringham equalised in the first minute of stoppage time.
Less than a minute later, David Beckham’s corner was headed across goal by Sheringham, and Solskjær reacted fastest to poke the ball into the roof of the net. The dramatic turnaround completed Manchester United’s treble of the Premier League, FA Cup and European Cup.
A common mix-up is to name Sheringham, because he scored the equaliser. Solskjær scored the decisive second goal, which made him the final’s winning-goal scorer.
