Who scored the lone Rangers goal on Gretzky's final NHL point?

Brian Leetch scored the lone Rangers goal on Wayne Gretzky’s final NHL point.

The goal came on April 18, 1999, during Gretzky’s final game, when the New York Rangers hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins at Madison Square Garden. New York was trailing when the Rangers went on a power play late in the second period.

Gretzky received the puck on the right side and fed Mathieu Schneider in the slot. Schneider then passed across to captain Brian Leetch, who redirected the puck into the net. Gretzky received an assist, giving him the 2,857th and final point of his NHL career. The Rangers’ goal tied the game at 1–1.

The Penguins eventually won 2–1 in overtime when Jaromir Jagr scored. That result can cause confusion: Jagr scored the final goal of the game, but Leetch scored the only Rangers goal and the goal that produced Gretzky’s final point. Gretzky finished his career with 1,487 regular-season games and remains the NHL’s all-time points leader.
