Who scored the decisive penalty in the 2012 UEFA Champions League final?
Answer
Didier Drogba
Answer
Didier Drogba
Didier Drogba scored the decisive penalty in the 2012 UEFA Champions League final, giving Chelsea victory over Bayern Munich.
The final at Munich’s Allianz Arena finished 1–1 after extra time. Bayern led through Thomas Müller, but Drogba equalised with a late header. Bayern then missed a crucial opportunity when Petr Čech saved Arjen Robben’s extra-time penalty.
The shoot-out was level at 3–3 when Bastian Schweinsteiger struck the post for Bayern. Drogba took Chelsea’s final kick, sent Manuel Neuer the wrong way, and secured a 4–3 shoot-out win. Chelsea therefore became European champions for the first time.
A common mix-up is confusing Drogba’s decisive penalty with the match’s earlier penalty incident: Robben took Bayern’s in extra time, while Drogba scored the winning kick in the shoot-out. Drogba also scored Chelsea’s equaliser during normal time.
