Who scored four consecutive centuries at the 2015 Cricket World Cup?

The story behind the answer

Kumar Sangakkara scored four consecutive centuries at the 2015 Cricket World Cup. The Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter achieved the sequence across matches against Bangladesh, England, Australia and Scotland.

He began with 105 not out against Bangladesh in Melbourne, followed with 117 against England in Wellington, made 104 against Australia in Sydney, and completed the run with 124 not out against Scotland in Hobart. The four innings came in successive matches, making the feat exceptionally rare in ODI cricket.

Sangakkara’s run was part of a superb individual tournament. He scored 541 runs, helping Sri Lanka reach the quarter-finals. New Zealand eliminated Sri Lanka in the knockout stage, but Sangakkara’s record remained one of the defining achievements of the competition.

A common mix-up is confusing consecutive centuries with the most centuries in a single World Cup. Rohit Sharma scored five in 2019, while Quinton de Kock scored four in 2023; neither matched Sangakkara’s four-century sequence across successive matches.
