Who replaced Beau DeMayo as X-Men '97 head writer in July 2024?
Answer
Matthew Chauncey
Answer
Matthew Chauncey
Matthew Chauncey replaced Beau DeMayo as the head writer of X-Men '97 in July 2024. Chauncey joined the production after Marvel dismissed DeMayo in March 2024, following DeMayo’s completion of much of the second season’s writing.
Chauncey was already part of Marvel’s animation writing pipeline. He worked as a writer on What If...? Marvel selected him to lead X-Men '97 moving forward, while he also oversaw rewrites to the second season’s scripts.
The change did not mean that DeMayo had written none of season 2. Production had advanced considerably before his departure: voice recording had begun by February 2023, and the season’s writing was substantially complete by March 2024. Chauncey’s role included supervising revisions and taking over the series’ writing leadership.
The other choices held different production roles. Larry Houston returned as a consulting producer and later executive producer, Brad Winderbaum is a Marvel Studios executive, and Jake Castorena served as supervising director rather than head writer.
