Who recorded the hit single "If You Go" in 1994?

The story behind the answer

Jon Secada recorded the 1994 hit single “If You Go.”

The song appeared on Secada’s second English-language album, Heart, Soul & a Voice, released in 1994. Secada co-wrote it with Miguel Morejon, and the recording was produced by Emilio Estefan, who had helped shape Secada’s early crossover career. Its polished pop and adult-contemporary sound made it one of Secada’s best-known songs.

“If You Go” reached No. 10 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and also performed strongly in Canada, where it topped the national singles chart. Secada recorded a Spanish-language counterpart, “Si te vas,” for Spanish-speaking markets; the two versions helped connect his English-language and Latin-pop audiences.

Listeners sometimes confuse the song with Secada’s earlier breakthrough “Just Another Day,” his 1992 hit. Both songs feature his distinctive romantic-pop style, but “If You Go” belongs to the 1994 Heart, Soul & a Voice era and was his last U.S. top-10 single.
