Who published the first Splatoon video game?

Nintendo published the first Splatoon video game. The 2015 title was developed by Nintendo Entertainment Analysis & Development and released for the Wii U.

Splatoon began as an unusual internal prototype: a four-versus-four territory-control game in which players covered an arena with ink. The team developed the idea into a shooter built around Inklings, characters that switch between humanoid and squid forms. Swimming through friendly ink became one of the game's defining mechanics.

Nintendo revealed Splatoon at its E3 2014 digital presentation, and the finished game launched in Japan on May 28, 2015. Its central Turf War mode asks teams to cover more of the stage with their color rather than simply defeat opponents, giving the shooter a distinctly competitive and strategic identity.

Bandai Namco, Capcom, and Sega are frequent quiz distractors because they publish major Japanese games, but none published the original Splatoon. Nintendo also published the later sequels, Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3, for the Nintendo Switch.
