Who produced the first bottled Coca-Cola commercially in 1894?
Answer
Joseph Biedenharn
Answer
Joseph Biedenharn
Joseph Biedenharn produced the first bottled Coca-Cola commercially in 1894.
Biedenharn operated a candy store and bottling business in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He began putting Coca-Cola into bottles so customers could take the drink away from the soda fountain, marking an important change in how the brand could travel and be consumed.
This early bottling was separate from the later large-scale bottling arrangement created by Benjamin Thomas and Joseph Whitehead in 1899. That distinction causes a common mix-up: Biedenharn is associated with the first commercial bottling, while Thomas and Whitehead obtained the famous exclusive bottling rights.
Coca-Cola’s early bottle was not the later contoured glass bottle. The contour design appeared in 1915, more than two decades after Biedenharn’s experiment.
