Who produced Foo Fighters' 1997 album The Colour and the Shape?
Answer
Gil Norton
Answer
Gil Norton
Gil Norton produced Foo Fighters’ 1997 album The Colour and the Shape.
Norton was brought in as the band prepared its second album after the international success of Foo Fighters’ 1995 debut. During pre-production, he worked with Dave Grohl and the group on arrangements, helping them strip songs down to their essential parts and develop a more focused pop-rock sound.
The album was recorded mainly at Grandmaster Recorders in Hollywood in early 1997, with earlier sessions at Bear Creek Studio in Washington. Norton’s production helped shape a record that balanced loud, driving songs such as “Monkey Wrench” with more reflective tracks including “Everlong” and “Walking After You.”
Greg Kurstin and Rick Rubin are associated with later Foo Fighters work, while Butch Vig produced the band’s 2011 album Wasting Light. None of them produced The Colour and the Shape; the album’s credited producer is the British musician and producer Gil Norton.
