Who plays Police Chief Angela Bishop in Dexter: New Blood?

The story behind the answer

Julia Jones plays Police Chief Angela Bishop in Dexter: New Blood. Angela is the chief of police in Iron Lake, the fictional small town in upstate New York where Dexter Morgan lives under the name Jim Lindsay.

Angela is introduced as Dexter’s romantic partner and as an experienced local investigator. She is also the adoptive mother of Audrey Bishop. Her work on missing-person cases, including the disappearance of Matt Caldwell, gradually brings her closer to evidence connected to Dexter’s hidden life.

Jones’s role is easy to mix up with other New Blood cast members. Jennifer Carpenter returns as Debra Morgan in a psychological, imagined role; Johnny Sequoyah plays Audrey Bishop; and Jamie Chung plays Molly Park, a podcaster. None of those actors portrays Angela.

Angela’s investigation becomes one of the revival’s main engines. Her suspicions eventually connect Dexter to the Bay Harbor Butcher case and to events in Iron Lake. The character also links the revival’s new setting to the original series’ long-running conflict between Dexter’s secret identity and law enforcement.
