Who plays Fredo Corleone in The Godfather films?

John Cazale plays Fredo Corleone in The Godfather films.

Cazale portrays Fredo, the second son of Vito Corleone and the older brother of Michael, in The Godfather and The Godfather Part II. Fredo is often characterized as insecure and less capable than his brothers, but his choices have serious consequences for the family.

Cazale did not appear in The Godfather Part III because he died in 1978, years before production began. The character’s death in Part II is one of the trilogy’s most remembered dramatic events.

Cazale had a short film career but appeared in five films, all of which were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. His other major roles included films such as Dog Day Afternoon and The Deer Hunter.
