Who plays Moe Greene, the Las Vegas casino owner, in The Godfather?
Answer
Alex Rocco
Answer
Alex Rocco
Alex Rocco plays Moe Greene, the Las Vegas casino owner, in The Godfather.
Moe Greene is an influential casino operator who helped develop Las Vegas. Michael Corleone meets him while discussing the Corleone family’s investment in Nevada. Greene resists the family’s attempt to buy his interest and treats Michael dismissively, creating a conflict between the established casino owner and the rising Corleone leadership.
The character is widely understood as being inspired partly by Bugsy Siegel, a real-life organized-crime figure involved in the development of the Flamingo hotel and casino. Greene’s fate is revealed during the film’s closing montage, when he is shot through the eye while receiving a massage.
Alex Rocco brought a sharp, arrogant style to the role. He is sometimes confused with Richard Bright, who plays Al Neri, or Abe Vigoda, who plays Salvatore Tessio. Those actors portray different members of the film’s criminal world.
