Who played Willie Scott in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom?

The story behind the answer

Kate Capshaw played Willie Scott in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Willie Scott is an American singer performing at a nightclub in Shanghai when she becomes involved in Indiana Jones’s escape from criminal forces. She travels with Indiana and Short Round to India, where her glamorous stage persona contrasts with the dangers of the adventure.

Capshaw was cast opposite Harrison Ford and played Willie as a frightened but resourceful civilian rather than a trained archaeologist. The character’s full name is Wilhelmina Scott, though she is almost always called Willie. Her relationship with Indiana supplies much of the film’s comic friction.

Temple of Doom was Capshaw’s first appearance in the Indiana Jones film series. She did not return as Willie in the later films. Karen Allen played Marion Ravenwood in Raiders of the Lost Ark and later returned to that role, making the two performers easy to confuse when identifying Indiana Jones’s romantic co-stars.
