Which actor played Sallah in the Indiana Jones films?

John Rhys-Davies played Sallah in the Indiana Jones films.

Sallah is an Egyptian excavation worker and a trusted friend of Indiana Jones. He first appears in Raiders of the Lost Ark, helping Indiana locate the Well of the Souls and escape from the dig site. Rhys-Davies returned as Sallah in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

The character is known for his warmth, practical knowledge, and loyalty. Sallah is not merely a comic companion: he provides local expertise and repeatedly assists Indiana during dangerous archaeological missions. His family is also shown in the later films.

Rhys-Davies is a Welsh actor whose other famous credits include Gimli and the voice of Treebeard in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Because Sallah appears across multiple Indiana Jones installments, the role is one of the series’ most recognizable recurring supporting parts.
