Who played Satipo, Indiana Jones’s guide, in Raiders of the Lost Ark?

Alfred Molina played Satipo, Indiana Jones’s guide, in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Satipo appears in the film’s opening sequence, guiding Indiana Jones through a booby-trapped South American temple. He travels with Indiana and the rival guide Barranca while the expedition searches for a golden idol. Satipo’s fear and betrayal help establish the film’s fast-moving adventure tone.

The role was one of Molina’s earliest screen appearances. He was not yet widely known internationally when Raiders of the Lost Ark was released in 1981, but he later became recognized for films such as Prick Up Your Ears, Frida, Spider-Man 2, and The Da Vinci Code. A common mix-up is confusing Satipo with Barranca, who is the other guide in the opening sequence. Vic Tablian played Barranca, while Molina played Satipo.
