Who played Mrs Peignoir in The Wedding Party?

Who played Mrs Peignoir in “The Wedding Party”? Yvonne Gilan played Mrs Peignoir.

Mrs Peignoir is a French antique dealer who stays at Fawlty Towers in the third episode of the first series, “The Wedding Party”. She takes a strong interest in Basil, whose attempts to maintain a respectable image become increasingly awkward as he responds to her flirtation.

Yvonne Gilan was a Scottish actress whose television career included appearances in programmes such as Z-Cars, Crossroads and The House of Eliott. Her performance as Mrs Peignoir became one of her best-known screen roles, despite the character appearing in only one Fawlty Towers episode.

The episode first aired on 3 October 1975. The guest cast also included Diana King as Mrs Lloyd and April Walker as Jean, which can make cast questions about the episode easy to mix up. Una Stubbs appeared elsewhere in the series, but she did not play Mrs Peignoir.
