In Spain's Spanish dub of Fawlty Towers, what name was Manuel given?

The story behind the answer

In Spain’s Spanish dub of Fawlty Towers, Manuel was given the name Paolo.

The original Manuel is a Spanish waiter from Barcelona, played by Andrew Sachs. For the TVE version broadcast in Spain, the character was reimagined as an Italian from Naples, making Paolo a localization choice rather than a simple translation of Manuel’s name. Some dialogue was adapted as well: in “The Anniversary,” his wish to cook paella became a desire to prepare lasagna.

This answer is easy to confuse because different regional dubs handled Manuel differently. The Catalan TV3 version changed him into a Mexican character, while the Basque ETB 1 version retained both his name, Manuel, and his Spanish identity. Thus, Paolo specifically identifies the Spanish TVE adaptation, not the character in the original BBC series.
