Who played Liz Lemon on 30 Rock?

Tina Fey played Liz Lemon on 30 Rock. Fey was both the series' creator and its leading performer, making Liz Lemon the character through whom much of the show's workplace comedy is viewed.

Liz is the head writer of TGS with Tracy Jordan, the fictional NBC sketch show at the center of the series. She has to manage demanding network executives, unpredictable performers, staff crises, and her own complicated personal life. Her professional relationship with Jack Donaghy supplies much of the show's central tension and affection.

Fey drew on her experience as a writer and head writer at Saturday Night Live when developing the series. The character is not simply an exact self-portrait, but Liz's writing job, New York setting, and struggles with live television reflect Fey's real background in comedy production.

Fey's performance earned major recognition, including an Emmy, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Award for her work as Liz. A common mix-up is confusing Liz Lemon with Fey's other television characters; Liz is the fictional character, while Tina Fey is the actor and creator who portrayed her.
