Who played Ice Tray, Will's Philadelphia friend, in season 1?

Don Cheadle played Ice Tray, Will’s Philadelphia friend, in season 1 of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Ice Tray appears in the season-one episode “Homeboy, Sweet Homeboy,” when Will’s old friend visits him in Bel-Air. The character represents Will’s Philadelphia past and highlights the contrast between Will’s streetwise upbringing and the Banks family’s affluent California lifestyle.

Cheadle’s performance is especially memorable because Ice Tray quickly clashes with Carlton and the Banks household’s expectations. His visit also creates romantic tension when Hilary becomes interested in him, adding a subplot to the episode’s broader examination of Will’s friendships and changing identity.

The role is an early television appearance in the career of Don Cheadle, who later became known for films such as Hotel Rwanda, Traffic and the Ocean’s series, as well as James Rhodes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The other options are actors associated with different projects or later Fresh Prince guest appearances, but none played Ice Tray.
