Who played Gellert Grindelwald in his youth in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1?

Jamie Campbell Bower played the young Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1.

Bower appears in the film through a brief flashback connected with Albus Dumbledore’s past. The sequence shows Grindelwald as a young wizard and links him to the theft of the Elder Wand from the wandmaker Gregorovitch.

Grindelwald is one of the most dangerous dark wizards in wizarding history. His earlier relationship with Dumbledore becomes important to the explanation of the Elder Wand and Dumbledore’s history in the final Harry Potter story.

The older Grindelwald is played by Michael Byrne in the Deathly Hallows flashback. Johnny Depp later portrayed Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts films, while Bower returned to the role in those films as well.
