Who played Captain Kirk's son David in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan?

Merritt Butrick played Captain James T. Kirk’s son, David Marcus, in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Butrick’s David is the son of Kirk and Dr. Carol Marcus, a scientist whose work is central to the film’s Genesis Project.

David is introduced as an accomplished but emotionally guarded young scientist serving aboard the research station Regula I. He initially resents Kirk because Kirk was absent during much of his childhood. Their strained relationship becomes one of the film’s human stories alongside the battle with Khan Noonien Singh.

Butrick returned as David in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. In that film, David is killed by a Klingon officer while protecting Saavik and Spock’s newly regenerated body. His death becomes a major reason Kirk risks everything to recover Spock and destroy the USS Enterprise.

Butrick was also known for playing Johnny “Slash” Ulasewicz on the television sitcom Square Pegs. Later, he appeared in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “Symbiosis,” playing the cargo-ship captain T’Jon.
